Southeastern Wins NJCAA's First Ever Division II Title
The Southeastern Blackhawk Men's Soccer squad rallied to four victories this week, resulting in a 2021 NJCAA National Championship victory.
The Blackhawks rallied twice to against CCBC Essex (Md.) and win 3-2 in overtime. Guilherme Cunha netted the game winner just 2:41 seconds into the extra period. Prior the that, Southeastern had to dig out of a 1-0 deficit and a 2-1 deficit. Twice from the foot of ICCAC Division II Soccer Player of the Year, Bart Muns was able to equalize the match. Most notably, Muns connected on the game-tying goal with less than five minutes to go in regulation to give the Blackhawks new life and send the game to extra time.
Cuhna's heroics earned him the Tournament MVP award. Muns was also named to the 12-man All-Tournament team.
Head coach Zac Newton was named Coach of the Tournament. The Blackhawks ended the season with a record of 17-2-1 after winning the ICCAC regular season title, Region XI Championship and Plains District Championship.
