All-Region for Division II Men's Soccer Announced
The Division II Men's Soccer All-Region teams were announced on Wednesday, with 13 players being placed on the First Team.
Southeastern finished in first place and earned four First Team selections, followed by Hawkeye with three, NIACC and Northeast with two and Scott and Dakota County with one each.
From the region champions was freshman forward Bart Muns. Muns, second in the conference in goals, was voted the 2021 Division II Player of the Year. Scoring 15 goals and adding nine assists, Muns was second in the conference in scoring. His most important goal of the season was his latest goal, as he netted the game-tying goal in the 85th minute of the district championship game, which gave the Blackhawks the chance to come back and win, which they did.
Muns ripped off 52 shots to lead the conference. He had multi-goal games four times this season including a hattrick against Scott and had 10 goals in a six-game stretch, scoring at least one in all six.
Joining Muns were fellow Blackhawks Jimson St. Louis, Jair Arita and Jotaro Mano.
St. Louis provided a comparable offensive attack, scoring 11 goals and dishing out eight assists finishing top five in the conference in each category.
Mano was a facilitator, leading the league along with Muns with nine assists. He also scored two goals.
Arita scored three goals and had two assists from his defensive position, and led a backline which only allowed 11 goals in 16 games so far this season.
Southeastern won the first-ever Division II Men's Soccer regional championship this season. The Blackhawks had a 11-1-1 record in the conference losing only to Marshalltown, and beat Iowa Central 6-0 in the season-opener. With that, head coach Zac Newton was labeled as the Division II Coach of the Year. Southeastern is headed to the NJCAA National Tournament after their come-from-behind win over Allen County (Kan.) in the district championship.
Hawkeye's three selections were Keith Gakaka, Joe Baston and Ade Sotoyinbo. All forwards, the three combined for 30 goals and eight assists with Gakaka and Baston each scoring 11 a piece. All three of them finished with 20 points or more this season.
Northeast placed Hugo Santos and Breno Neves onto the First Team. Santos led the ICCAC in both goals, 16, and points, 40.
Neves was a staple for the No. 3 seeded Hawks.
From NIACCC were Connor Lambert and Luke McMahon. McMahon provided the Trojan offense during the year. He was third in the conference in goals with 13 and led the league in hat tricks with three and thrived in games against Scott where he scored eight of his season's goals.
Lambert had three goals as a defender.
Completing the list were Scott's Trevor Millionzi and Dakota County's Cristian Fuentes.
