Newton Named Leader of Blackhawk Soccer
Zac Newton to be the head coach of Southeastern's men's and women's soccer programs.
Southeastern Community College will begin men's and women's soccer starting in the fall of 2018. Chosen to lead the Blackhawks program will be Zac Newton. Newton, originally from Australia, played four years of college soccer in the United States. He began his career at Peninsula College in Port Angeles, Wash, where his teams won back to back Northwest Athletic Conference Championships. Following his two years at Peninsula, he transferred to Niagara University to finish his collegiate career.
"Zac's youth, knowledge, and eagerness to succeed at the NJCAA level, will prove to be beneficial in recruiting and relating to players at the community college level," Southeastern athletic director Tyler Gaston said.
"His own story embodies what we would like to do at Southeastern with our new program. We want to bring in great players, graduate players, and transition them to formidable 4-yr levels of play."
After his playing career, Newton returned to Washington to begin his coarching career which included stops at the Washington Rush, Seattle Celtic and Seattle United, all youth programs in the area.
Beginning this past season, Coach Newton assisted Roosevelt High school who won the 2017 Washington State 3A Championship. Additionally, he became an assistant coach for the men's program at Penisula.
"Coach Newton understands how to move players on to the Division I level having played at that level himself, and he is genuinely interested in being a mentor to young adults," Gaston continued.
While at Niagara, Newton earned a B.S. in Sports Management and Operations.
