2024 Central District Championship | Day 1 Results

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Indian Hills had three golfers finish under par after the first 36 holes on Day 1 to take a 15-shot lead heading into the final round on Tuesday. The Warriors were led by Jose Carletta who posted a magnificent 10-under par. The sophomore shot 5-under in each round (67s), netting six birdies and one bogie in the first, and seven birdies and two bogies in the second.

Carletta finished 2-under on Par 3s, 5-under on Par 4s and 3-under on Par 5s. His 13 total birdies were five more than anyone else in the 69 player field.

Last year's NJCAA individual champion, Gaspar Glaudas posted a 4-under first day total for the Warriors. Glaudas was 6-under on Par 4s, the lowest of all Central District golfers. He was tied for second with teammate Shinju Aoki, who was playing as an individual. Aoki posted a 4-under 68 in round one and held strong with an even-par 72 on the second 18. Although his score doesn't affect the Warriors team position, it was a great day.

Rounding out the Warriors scores were Matias Koropeski (+2), Emilio Arellano (+2) and Jose Ramirez (+7).

For Iowa Western, the Reivers are in a tie for fourth place and 14 shots ahead of sixth place -- which bodes well for the Reivers as only the top 5 teams earn a spot at the National Tournament. Iowa Western was led by Nick Slobbe and Ethan Smith who are tied in 15th place after Day 1 5-over par. Smith had the low round between the two, an even-par 72 in his first round.

Notably, Ryan Lingelbach was the only other player not named Carletta or Aoki to finish with a round in the 60s. He shot an opening round 69 before a disappointing 81 in round 2.

The third and final round finishes up tomorrow at Tiffany Greens Golf Club.
