ICCAC Bowling Action In Two Events
The bowling teams that represent the ICCAC took to the lanes over the weekend at the Clarke Invite and Mustang Invite. The first invitationals of the season for all three schools were a way to shake off the competitive rust and get rolling after the extended off season. There was plenty of action in Sioux City and Dubuque for the athletes as every member bowled four games.
Starting in Sioux City, where Iowa Western took their team to the Mustang Invite, hosted by Morningside College.
Eleven of the sixteen bowlers for the Reivers were making their competitive debut, and yet they showed that for the rest of the year there is plenty left to be desired. T
he Reiver women placed fifth and were led by sophomore Shalee Bradley. Bradley earned all-tournament recognition when she averaged 202 for the four games, which included a high game of 243. Reece Kelly burst onto the scene in his first collegiate experience. He averaged a 213 and placed second overall for the day. He was joined in the top-10 by teammate Tim Lincoln whose four-game total was 743.
In Dubuque, it was Hawkeye and Iowa Central competing in the Clarke Invite.
Hawkeye turned in some solid scores on both the men's and women's side of things. Cory LaBarge averaged a 208.5 and finished in eighth place in the seventy-two-man tournament. On the women's side of things, the Redtails had the pleasure of having the individual champion compete for them. Whittney Morse was a model of consistency averaging a 214 throughout the event, her lowest score was 198.
After entering tournament-play as the No. 4 seed, Iowa Central men upset top-seed Mount Mercy in the semifinals and Clarke in finals to claim the tournament title.
Iowa Central fired a team score of 6,219 in pool play led by Raymond Wiegand and Kamrin Chizek, who finished 10th and 11th overall. Wiegand had an 817 series and Chizek an 814.
In the championship matchplay, Iowa Central had games of 221 and 247 to sweep Mount Mercy and games of 221 and 198 to sweep Clarke.
The Triton women were fourth overall with a team score of 5,435. All four-year programs finished ahead of Iowa Central in the team standings, including winner Mount Mercy. In pool play, the Tritons fell to eventual winner Mount Mercy. Madison Ross placed 15th overall with a 698 series to lead the Tritons with teammate Samantha Wangen right behind in 16th with a 690. Hawkeye's Whittney Morse was the women's individual champion with an 856 series.
