Hutchinson, KS – The Indian Hills Men's Basketball team saw its season come to an end Monday night at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Basketball National Championship. The Warriors dropped an 85-71 contest to 14th seeded Vincennes University (IN).
Making their 20th all-time appearance at the national tournament, and fourth consecutive trip, the Warriors bowed out of the national tournament to finish the year with a 27-6 overall record. Indian Hills is now 31-21 all-time at the national tournament.
The third-seeded Warriors were led by a game-high 20 points from Quinton Perkins II (Dallas, TX/Tarleton State). The redshirt freshman scored 18 in the final 20 minutes of the game after going 7-8 from the floor and 4-4 from three-point range in the second half alone.
Sophomore Trenton Walters (Frisco, TX/Radford) added 15 points for the Warriors while knocking down five three-point shots. Walters added four assists and three rebounds. Fellow sophomore Kayden Nation (Peoria, IL/Western Nebraska) chipped in 11 points, knocking down a pair of three-point shots.
As a team, the Warriors shot 48.1 percent from the floor, including a 48.0 percent clip from three-point range. Indian Hills knocked down 12 three-point shots on Monday.
Indian Hills scored the first basket of the game, but the Trailblazers responded immediately and never looked back. Vincennes led by double-digits in the first half and eventually took a 35-26 lead into halftime.
Both Walters and Perkins sparked the Warriors in the second half as the duo combined for eight three-point shots in the final frame as Indian Hills pulled back within three. The rally was short-lived as Vincennes, the NJCAA's all-time leader in tournament appearances, pulled away down the stretch to eliminate the Warriors.
Vincennes will advance to take on the winner of Panola College (TX) and Frank Phillips College (TX) at 8:00 PM on Wednesday night.
