2024-25 Winter Preview | Division II Men's Basketball
ICCAC Division II Basketball returns for the 2024-25 season and the conference appears unpredictable as the season starts in November.
Every year at least five teams of the ten in the conference appear able to win the Region 11 crown. The upcoming season will likely be just as chaotic.
The Coaches Poll this year sees reigning regular season champions DMACC top the at 1 with Ellsworth close behind as the reigning Region 11 Tournament champions. It was the Panthers that earned an automatic bid to the big dance but both DMACC and Iowa Lakes earned at-large bids to the NJCAA Tournament. Iowa Lakes finished runner-up in the Region 11 Tournament last season and are fourth in the coaches poll this season.
Kirkwood takes the No. 3 spot in the coaches poll and eyes a return to the NJCAA National Tournament for the first time since 2019.
For a second consecutive year Iowa Western and Iowa Central are voted into the middle of the pack at fifth and sixth respectively. Both teams will aim to break into the top four in the conference to host a first round tournament matchup.
Tied for seventh in the poll are Northeast and Southwestern. The difference between the two is the experience the Northeast coach heads into his second season while Southwestern has a first year head man.
Rounding out the coaches poll is NIACC and Western Iowa Tech in ninth and tenth respectively. NIACC will aim to improve while Western Iowa Tech will hope to make a good showing in their first season of eligibility to the postseason.
Eight of the 10 teams will qualify for postseason play. The 18 conference games will determine who gets to enter. Expect another outstanding season of ICCAC Division II Basketball in 2024-25.
