2024-25 Winter Preview | Division I Men's Basketball
Region 11 features three Division I teams, Indian Hills, Marshalltown and Southeastern. Both Indian Hills and Southeastern have made the National Tournament at least once in the past two seasons.
Indian Hills is coming off an impressive 2023-24 campaign which featured a Region 11 and North Central District Title. This automatically qualified the Warriors for the National Tournament in which they proved that they are a top tier squad by reaching the Final 4 of the NJCAA Tournament and a 29-6 record. While last season was very successful the Warriors will enter the 2024-25 season with a new coach and different looking starting lineup. It will be up to new head coach, Cole Dewey, to continue the Warriors success, the expectations are still high as Indian Hills starts the season ranked No. 11 in the NJCAA preseason Top 25.
Southeastern finished last year with a 19-11 record, missing out on an at-large bid for the National Tournament. Although the Blackhawks missed out on the big dance the season was far from disappointing as they finished second in the conference and were only six points away from winning the Region 11 Tournament. Coach Lorenzo Watkins will definitely enter this season looking to get his team back on the National stage with two key returners and starting the season receiving votes in the NJCAA preseason poll.
Marshalltown finished last out of the three Division I teams in Region 11, with a 10-21 overall record. It has been since 2017-18 that the Tigers finished the season with a winning record, but with key additions and returning players Coach Ryan Flack will hope to change their fortune. Last season did yield an important victory for Marshalltown as they won their first conference game in the last three years -- a one-point win over Southeastern. While aspirations are always to win the Region, the Tiger's first-and-foremost eye improvement this season.
