Division I Men's Basketball All-Region Selections Awarded
The ICCAC Division I Men's Basketball All-Region team was announced on Monday.
Indian Hills, the winner of the regular season conference title, garnered two First Team selections in 2023. The Warriors were headlined by Don McHenry, who was unanimously named the ICCAC Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Year.
McHenry led the three-team league in scoring at 15.5 points per game. In four conference games, he elevated his game to average 18.5 points per night. Ten times this season he scored 20 or more points, including a season-high 35 against Highland (Ill.).
In other categories he averaged 3.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists pre game -- while shooting 36.1 percent from three.
Joining McHenry from Indian Hills was Enoch Kalambay.
An Honorable Mention a season ago, Kalambay saw a greater role this season. He averaged 12.2 points per game this season and 6.7 rebounds, second-best in the conference. His 7.5 rebounds per game in conference play were the most.
Southeastern placed two players on the First Team as well with Davion Bailey and Jaylen Searles.
Bailey returns to the First Team list after earning the same recognition a year ago. The Blackhawks top scorer averaged 14.8 points per game -- and played his best in their District Championship game last Sunday -- when he had 25 points -- tying a season-high.
Searles was solid in 2023 as he scored 10.9 points and averaged 5.3 rebounds.
The Blackhawks head coach Lorenzo Watkins was named ICCAC Division I Men's Basketball Coach of the Year. For the first time since 2011, Southeastern earned a bid to the NJCAA National Tournament after knocking off Indian Hills in the Region 11 Championship - then North Dakota State College of Science in the North Central District. It is Watkins second time winning the award after taking it in 2018-19.
Finishing out the first team was Marshalltown's Zion Obanla. Obanla was third in the conference in scoring at 14.7 points per game. He pulled down eight rebounds per game and shot 55 percent from the field.
