2022-23 ICCAC Winter Preview | Division II Men's Basketball
This might be the deepest that the ICCAC Division II Men's Basketball conference has been -- even more so than before. DMACC has reached the NJCAA National Tournament each of the last three seasons, and are tagged atop the coaches poll. But there is some uncertainty in Boone -- they have their third head coach in four seasons, and will need to fill some shoes from last year's team in order to earn a fourth-straight bid.
Kirkwood is itching to get back to Danville in 2023 -- having not been since 2019. The Eagles hosted the regional championship last year but were knocked off by the Bears in Johnson Hall.
Iowa Lakes reached the national tournament in 2021 -- winning the regional tournament that season. The Lakers are built to make another run -- as they always are. They have reached the regional final four of the last 10 seasons, and the regional semifinals in 10 of 10.
Two teams to keep an eye on are Iowa Western and Ellsworth. The Reivers were the No. 4 seed a season ago and have the talent to push deeper and win games late in the year if they can put it all together.
There's a new face in Iowa Falls this year. After 20 years of Troy Muilenburg, Bryan Bender takes over the Panthers and has brought a buzz along with him. ECC is ranked in the preseason poll and looking to shake things up atop the league.
With five or more teams who could win the region -- the ICCAC is excited for the pending at-large bids coming next year to the Division II level -- but until then, only one team will advance to Danville.
