ICCAC Hosts Fall Scrimmages
MARION, Iowa - The ICCAC hosted their first events since the 2019 Graphic Edge Bowl last week with the ICCAC Softball & Baseball Scrimmages.
Ten teams, five from each sport, met at Prospect Meadows in front of scouts and fans alike in a series of scrimmages. Ellsworth, Iowa Central, Iowa Lakes, Kirkwood & Southwestern each sent their baseball and softball teams to be a part of the action. Typically, the event hosts upwards of 12 to 16 teams annually.
"These events give our student-athletes the opportunity to get together and compete," Ellsworh athletic director and head softball coach Nate Forsyth said. "It gives them the another opportunity early on to get recruited, as sophomores or as freshman, and market themseleves to continue to play the sport that they love."
Softball opened things up on Thursday and featured a three-team round robin group, Kirkwood, Iowa Lakes and Southwestern and a double-header between Ellsworth and Iowa Central. On the baseball side, Kirkwood started off the day with a scrimmage against Ellsworth. Iowa Lakes and Southwestern started shortly after and the day finished with Kirkwood versus Iowa Central.
Despite the lower partipations numbers due to COVID, the same platform and opportunity was provided as in years past.
"Four year coaches have already started to reach out to other coaches in our league of the players that played those days," Forsyth said. "That was the goal. I think it went really well."
