ICCAC Plants Six in 2024-25 Winter Sports Hall of Fame Class
Six NJCAA Hall of Fame selections from the 2024-25 Winter Class hailed from ICCAC institutions, as the group was announced on Friday.
Indian Hills was honored with three past members (Kenny Bednarek (Track & Field), Terry Carroll (Men's Basketball), and Jill Hoeck (Volleyball)) and one current coach (Cole Spree (Men's Wrestling)) on the list. One of those selections was split their time at Southeastern (Carroll), who notched two inductees (Filiberto Rivera), both in Men's Basketball.
Iowa Central's current Men's Wrestling coach Luke Moffitt joined the class to round out the ICCAC selections this season.

Men's Basketball:
Terry Carroll | Coach | Indian Hills (IA) & Southeastern (IA)
Terry Carroll has been a coach for the NJCAA for 19 years. He spent nine seasons at Indian Hills as the head coach of Men's Basketball. During his time there, he registered an overall record of 269-50, having five 30-win seasons and seven 20-win seasons. Carroll led his team to two National Titles in 1997 and 1998. Having appeared in the National Championship four times, they made it to the Final Four three of those appearances. He earned NJCAA Coach of the Year awards twice. 10 of his 19 years with the NJCAA were spent at Southeastern Community College. He garnered a record of 211-89. Carrol led Southeastern to four National Tournament appearances, making it to the Final Four once. While at Southeastern, Carroll also served as the Athletic Director.
Outside of the NJCAA, Carroll spent six years at the University of Denver, where he earned Sun Belt Coach of the Year in 2004-2005. He was a one-time Regular Season Champion and had four straight winning seasons. Carroll also spent time as the Associate Head Coach at Iowa State University for three seasons. He was a part of ISU's most successful two-year run in school history by helping the Cyclones to a 57-11 record, back-to-back Big 12 regular season championships and an Elite Eight berth in 2000.
As an athlete, Carroll played one season at Oklahoma State and three seasons at the University of Northern Iowa.
Filiberto Rivera | Student-Athlete | Southeastern (IA)
Filiberto Rivera played NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball at Southeastern Community College for two years. During his time at Southeastern CC, Rivera became the NJCAA Division I Player of the Year in the 2002-2003 season. In the same year, he earned a spot as 1st Team All American. In 2003, Rivera helped to lead his team to a National Championship Title, earning MVP of the tournament. Rivera was at the helm of his team as he helped bring Southeastern CC to victory in the Region 11 Championship in 2002. From his strong performances and leadership on the court, Rivera earned the David Rowlands NJCAA Student Athlete of the Year award in 2003. After finishing his two years at Southeastern CC, he played at UTEP for two more seasons in 2003-2005.
Rivera's list of accomplishments does not stop there. He won WAC Tournament MVP in 2005, Won 10 medals representing the Puerto Rico National Team and was a three-time champion of BSN (Puerto Rico) in 2006, 2019 and 2023. Rivera played on the National Team for Puerto Rico for 10 years before playing professionally in Europe for six seasons in Germany, Italy, Greece and Israel. Rivera also played professionally in Latin America in the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Venezuela. Rivera spent time in leadership as he was the Director of Basketball Operations for Gigantes De Carolina in Puerto Rico. Basketball Program Coordinator of High School Fountain College.
Not only filling the role as a leader and captain for his team, Rivera was a role model on campus as well. An instrumental part in leading the basketball program at Southeastern CC, Rivera was a key piece to the success in developing relationships in Latin America for recruiting.
Track & Field:
Kenny Bednarek | Student-Athlete | Indian Hills Community College (IA)
Kenny Bednarek spent one season on the Indian Hills Community College Track & Field team in 2018-19 and quickly made their mark in the history books. Bednarek was the 2018-19 NJCAA Men's Indoor Track & Field 400m National Champion and became the Division I Outdoor National Champion in the 200m and 400m. He still holds five Indian Hills Track school records. Bednarek's 200m indoor time during 2019 was the fastest time in the United States and No. 2 time in the world for that season. At the outdoor meet, Bednarek's time of 19.49 was the fourth-fastest 200m of all time.
Since his time at Indian Hills, Bednarek has done incredible things on the international stage. He won the 200m silver medal in both the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics. He also competed at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, OR, finishing with a silver medal in the 200m. In addition, Bednarek won the 200m at the Diamond League Championship in 2021 and 2024.
Volleyball:
Jill Hoeck | Student-Athlete | Indian Hills (IA)
Jill Hoeck was a member of the Indian Hills volleyball team for two seasons. During this time, Hoeck received NJCAA First-Team All-American, AVCA first-team All-American, NJCAA National Tournament Outstanding Setter, and NJCAA Region 11 First-Team honors. In 2013 she was inducted into the Indian Hills Athletics Hall of Fame.
As a member of the Warriors volleyball team, Hoeck led the team to back-to-back NJCAA Region 11 District Championships as well as to consecutive NJCAA National Tournament appearances where they placed third and fifth. In 2004 she was named the Most Outstanding Setter with 214 assists and in 2005 was once again named the Most Outstanding Setter with 199 assists. Hoeck holds the school record with a total of 3,254 assists and is in the top five single season school record for assists.
After Indian Hills, Hoeck transferred to the University of North Carolina-Wilmington where she made all 63 starts for the Seahawks and played in 223 sets.
Wrestling:
Cole Spree | Coach | Indian Hills Community College (IA)
Spree started the Indian Hills men's and women's wrestling programs and became the first head coach in school history in 2019. Over that span, Indian Hills has won three consecutive women's wrestling national championships and earned three consecutive National Coach of the Year honors. Spree's impact on junior college women's wrestling has helped shape the sport and contributed to its current growth. He has coached 11 individual female national champions, two men's national runners-up, and nine team top-10 men's finished at the national tournament. In addition, Spree has earned over 100 career dual wins. In 2023, he was named the Open Mat NJCAA Coach of the Year and NWCA Coach of the Year.
Cole Spree is currently the head men's wrestling coach at Indian Hills Community College (IA). Before Indian Hills, Spree wrestled at Ellsworth Community College (IA) and was an All-American wrestler. He later returned to Ellsworth as the head wrestling coach of his alma mater.
Luke Moffitt | Coach | Iowa Central Community College
Luke Moffitt has been the long-time head wrestling coach at Iowa Central Community College for 20 seasons. Over that span, Moffitt has led the Tritons to six national championships and a top-three finish at the national tournament 14 times. He holds a career record of 209-63. Thirty-six student-athletes have won individual national championships under Moffitt, and 118 have been named All-Americans. Moffitt has won National Coach of the Year five times throughout his career.
Before coaching, Moffitt was an Iowa Central wrestler and the 141-pound NJCAA National Champion in 2000. Following his junior college career, he moved on to the University of Iowa and was a two-year starter for the Hawkeyes. In 2002, Moffitt won the Big 10 Championship and was voted the Tournament's outstanding wrestler. In 2022, Moffitt was inducted into the Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame.
