Iowa Western, Hawkeye Lead Way at 2024 ICCAC Sports Shooting Championships

The 2024 ICCAC Sports Shooting Championships were held at the New Pioneer Gun Club in Waukee last weekend with the 10 ICCAC teams participating in four disciplines (Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays and Super Sporting Clays) to determine this year's champions.

In Trap, although all teams participated, it was the Iowa Western and Iowa Central scores that mattered. The Reivers and Tritons finished off the Clay Target Craziness Tournament with a showdown at the ICCAC Championships. In the end Iowa Western prevailed with a top five score of 494 to Iowa Central's 481. Iowa Western had four shooters hit 99 targets in Mason Pillard, Karson Lea, Karter Kopecky and Jasper Stutzman, while Iowa Central's top shooter Jacob Geis hit 98.

With the win, Iowa Central won their first Trap Championship since 2021-22 and stopped Hawkeye's two year hold on the discipline. 

Individually, Elliott Brincks won the men's side with a perfect 100 of 100 score. Abby Johnson led the women's side with a 97 and then won two tie-breakers over Northeast Iowa's Dakota Lacina and Hawkeye's Ella Audorff.

 Hawkeye won the Skeet portion, beating out Iowa Western by five targets and a score of 486. Hawkeye's Colton Crooks was the lone shooter to hit all 100 targets and win the men's crown, one that he retained from also winning a season ago. Janice Tejeda of Iowa Western took the women's individual Skeet championship with a 97. 

Iowa Western also took home the Sporting Clays title. Reiver Payton Kruse won the women's side with a score of 90 and Chase Bindl of Hawkeye won the men's side with a 94.
