Indian Hills Headlines 2019 Division I All-Region Selections

The Division I Volleyball season ended with co-regular season champions for the first time since 2016 as Indian Hills and Iowa Western shared the crown in 2019. With that, the teams split six selections to the Division I Volleyball All-Region team, with Marshalltown earning one selection. 

Headlining the awards is Indian Hills. The coaches voted outside hitter Mariana Rodrigues as the best player in the conference in 2019 taking home ICCAC Player of the Year honors. The sophomore leads the ICCAC in kills with 481, seventh-most in the NJCAA. She averages 4.04 per set in 119 sets played in 2019, with the District Tournament still looming. She had double-digit kills in 31 of 36 matches and is also fourth in the ICCAC with 371 digs. 

Also on the All-Region team for the Warriors is setter Cassia Lemos. Lemos, the nation's leader in assists, has accumulated 1581 assists this season, the most of any Division I NJCAA player since 2016. She is averaging 13.29 assists per set and has 12 matches of 50 or more assists, with a season-high 68 against Northeast (Neb.).

The last selection for the Warriors is Amanda Toyota. The team's libero is second in the conference in digs (417) and digs per set (4.17). 

Also earning recognition for Indian Hills is coach Lyndsey Michel, as she was selected at the 2019 ICCAC Division I Volleyball Coach of the YearMichel has led the Warriors to a 33-3 record, which has included a winning streak of 16 to open the season and their current streak of 15. It is the fifth time she has led a team to 30+ wins in eight seasons at the helm. 

Iowa Western added three selections to the 2019 All-Region Team. 

The 2018 ICCAC Player of the Year Genesis Sheridan is recognized again this season. The Reivers middle hitter has totaled 298 kills this season with a hitting percentage .386, 13th best in the NJCAA. 

Also on the All-Region team is the Reivers' power hitter Kortlyn Henderson. The freshman led Iowa Western with 477 kills and averaged the most per set in the ICCAC at 4.34, fifth-best in the country. Only twice this season has she finished with less than 10 kills in a match. She posted a season-high 31 against Panola (Fla.).

The last representative from Iowa Western is setter Réka Kotormon. Kotormon is fifth in the country in assists with 1215 at 10.57 per set. She has six matches of 50+ assists herself, with a 66-assist performance also coming against Panola. 

Marshalltown placed sophomore Halee Pedro on All-Region. Pedro led the ICCAC in digs per set (5.24) for the second straight season. This year she tallied 660 digs, and added to last year (630) she finished her career with 1290.
