Division I Conference Matches

#7 Indian Hills (28-3; 2-1) def. Marshalltown (26-11; 0-4), 3-1 

With a 3-1 win over Marshalltown, Indian Hills secured a spot in one of the Midwest District Tournaments and eliminated the Tigers from the post-season. 

The Warriors were led by Mariana Rodrigues who had 21 kills and 12 digs. It was the sophomore's third double-double in her last four matches. Gabriela Cavalcante had the second-most team kills with 10. 

Amanda Toyota had 24 digs to lead Indian Hills and Cassia Lemos had 54 assists, her 11th game over 50+ assists this season.

Indian Hills Scenarios:

The Warriors, who locked up a spot in the post-season by beating Marshalltown, have some work to do to win the conference championship. Facing Iowa Western next week, Indian Hills would need to sweep the Reviers and outscore them by 9 or more points in the process. 

Iowa Western holds the set lead 3-0 and total points, 76-67. 

If they tie both sets and set points, there would be a coin toss. 

 

Marshalltown Scenarios:

Eliminated from post-season play. 

 

Division II Conference Matches

#12 Iowa Central (30-5; 7-1) def. RV Northeast (18-16; 6-2), 3-2

Down two sets, the Iowa Central Tritons stormed back to keep their No. 1 overall seed hopes intact winning 3-2 over Northeast. 

The Hawks came out strong at home taking the first two sets 25-23 and 25-19. Then the Tritons turned it around, winning two close sets, 25-20 and 25-21. Ultimately in the final set, Iowa Central took charge and won handily 15-8. 

The Tritons were led back by their power hitters Kealy Anderson and Amaya Finley. The two combined for 35 kills on 125 attempts and collected 43 digs, both finishing with double-doubles. Taylor Bienemann had 31 digs, most of anyone in the match. Alesha Johnson and Katie Godfredsen distributed the ball around with 33 and 21 assists. 

For Northeast, Brianna Bauer led the Hawks with 16 kills and 11 digs. Hannah Heppner added 13 digs, while Carly Hirsch had 11 digs and 10 kills. MaKayla Davidson tallied 45 assists and 15 digs. Josie Sanger and Caitlin Kumm pitched in 27 and 21 digs, respectively.

Iowa Central Scenarios:

There is quite a bit on the line next week, yet. Iowa Central will face NIACC at home to determine the outright ICCAC Region Season Champion and No. 1 overall seed.

With a win, they would be the No. 1 seed.

If Iowa Central loses, they would be the No. 2 seed, holding the tie-breaker at over both DMACC and/or Northeast at 7-2. 

 

Northeast Scenarios:
Northeast will head to Boone to face DMACC.

If the Hawks finish 7-2, they would lose both tie-breakers with NIACC or Iowa Central based on head-to-head results to be the No. 3 seed. 

If the Hawks finish 6-3, they would be in the clear at No. 4 if they tie with Kirkwood. The Hawks beat the Eagles 3-1 back on Sept. 25. If Kirkwood loses they would stand alone at No. 4. 

 

DMACC (18-14; 6-2) def. Ellsworth (5-26; 0-8), 3-0

DMACC moved past Ellsworth a three-set victory, although two of the sets were competitive. The Bears won 25-15, 25-20, and 25-23 as each set got closer and closer. 

DMACC was led by Cailey Shaa who had 24 assists and 8 digs.

DMACC Scenarios:

The Bears face Northeast next week with the possibility of hosting the Region XI-B Championships in Boone with a win. In order to do so, DMACC must win and NIACC would have to lose to Iowa Central. 

If NIACC beats Iowa Central, the Tritons hold the head-to-head tie-breaker over DMACC for their 3-0 win over the Bears on Sept. 11, thus making the Bears the No. 3 seed. 

If DMACC loses, they could potentially drop all the way to the No. 5 seed pending Kirkwood's results with Hawkeye. The Eagles own the head-to-head over DMACC, and if both 6-3, Kirkwood would be No. 4 and DMACC, No. 5. 

DMACC is the No. 4 seed with a loss to Northeast and a Kirkwood loss to Hawkeye. 

 

Ellsworth Scenarios:

Eliminated if:

Southwestern wins (2-7) vs. Southeastern.

Ellsworth loss (0-9) vs. Iowa Lakes (2-7).

Three-Way Tie-Breaker for No. 8 Seed If:

Win (1-8) vs. Iowa Lakes (1-8) and Southwestern loss (1-8) vs. Southeastern

#19 Kirkwood (22-12; 5-3) def. Southwestern (5-30; 1-7), 3-0

Kirkwood beat Southwestern in straight sets to put their conference winning streak at three matches. 

Anna Gorsich had another big night for the Eagles collecting 14 kills and six digs. It was the hitter's fourth straight conference game with double-digit kills averaging 15 kills per match over that span. 

Madi Wagaman had 14 assists to lead Kirkwood in that category. Maranda Wheelock had a nice night as well with 7 assists and 9 digs.

Kirkwood Scenarios:

Kirkwood will play Hawkeye next week and could end up as high as the No. 4 or as low as the No. 6 seed based on results. 

If 6-3:

With a win, they could jump up to No. 4 pending the results of Northeast vs. DMACC. If Northeast loses, Kirkwood is the No. 5 seed, as they lost to the Hawks 3-1 on Sept. 25. If DMACC loses, the Eagles hold the head-to-head advantage for a 3-1 win over the Bears on Sept. 18. 

If 5-4:

With a loss, the Eagles would drop all the way to No. 6 as they would lose a head-to-head tie-break with Hawkeye, both finishing 5-4.

 

Southwestern Scenarios:

No. 8 Seed If: 

Southwestern (2-7) win vs. Southeastern and Iowa Lakes loss (1-8) vs. Ellsworth (1-8). 

Three-Way Tie-Breaker for No. 8 Seed:

Southwestern loss (1-8) vs. Southeastern and Iowa Lakes loss (1-8) vs. Ellsworth (1-8).

Iowa Lakes owns tie-breaker vs. Southwestern for win on Wed. Sept. 11, 3-0. 

 

Hawkeye (14-21; 4-4) def. Southeastern (19-16; 3-5), 3-0

Despite the 3-0 result over Southeastern last night, this matchup was a competitive one, as expected. evenly matches, Hawkeye narrowly outscored the Blackhawks 75-66, winning by 4, 3, and 2 over the course of three sets. The RedTails were active defensively against Southeastern's hitters. They didn't allow a double-digit kill performance to anyone. Sarah Shambaugh had 9 kills and Rachel Bingham had 8 for the Blackhawks.

Haylee Keune was the anchor for the RedTail defense, picking 24 digs. Three others had double-digit scoops, Paige Eiffler ahd 14, Jessica Hopkins had 12 along with 12 kills and Leah Carter had 11. 

Hawkeye's Tanyon Schutjer led all players with 26 assists. 

For Southeastern, Jenna Saad had 25 assists and Bingham led the team with 12 digs.

Hawkeye Scenarios:

The RedTails could be the No. 5 seed with a win over Kirkwood next week. The two would finish at 5-4 and the RedTails would own the head-to-head tie-breaker. With a loss, Hawkeye would be the No. 6 seed regardless, as they won the head-to-head for their 3-0 win over Southeastern on Oct. 23 if both finish at 4-5. 

 

Southeastern Scenarios:

The Blackhawks are the No. 7 seed regardless of their outcome against Southwestern next week. At 3-6, they would stand alone. At 4-5 they would lose a potential tie-breaker to Hawkeye for the 3-0 loss on Oct. 23. 

They will head to the No. 2 seed of the Region XI-B Tournament, which could be NIACC, Iowa Central or DMACC.  

  

#18 NIACC (29-8; 7-1) def. Iowa Lakes (9-27; 1-7), 3-0

NIACC handled business as over Iowa Lakes in straight sets. The Trojans dominated the night, holding the Lakers two single-digit points in two of three sets (25-9, 25-13, and 25-8). 

Kennedy Meister had 9 kills to lead all hitters. Shelby Heston added 8 and Alexa Loftus had 6. Becca Steffen had 17 assists for NIACC and Kayla Lentz had 16 digs. 

The Trojans were serve-happy, knocking 16 aces on the night. It was the third straight game the Trojans have had 15 or more serving aces, averaging 16.7 per match over the three matches. 

In all, 14 Trojans saw action last night. 

It was a tough night for Iowa Lakes, ending with more errors (10) and kills (8). Faith Marroquin was active defensively, pulling up 21 digs for the Lakers.

NIACC Scenarios:

NIACC will head to Iowa Central next week, the winner taking home the No. 1 seed and the ICCAC Division II Regular Season crown. 

No 1 Seed - Win (8-1)

No. 2 Seed - Loss (7-2) + Northeast win over DMACC (NIACC def. NECC 3-0 on Oct. 9)

No. 3 Seed - Loss (7-2) + DMACC win over Northeast (DMACC def. NIACC 3-2 on Sept. 4)

 

Iowa Lakes Scenarios:

No. 8 Seed If: 

Iowa Lakes wins (2-7) vs. Ellsworth (0-9).

Southwestern loss (1-8) vs. Southeastern.

Iowa Lakes owns tie-breaker vs. Southwestern for win on Wed. Sept. 11, 3-0.
