Division I Volleyball Recognizes Best in Conference

After winning their third straight outright conference championship, Iowa Western led the way in 2018 with four All-Region selections.

Hina Pua'a, the Reivers' setter, had a fabulous season for the Reivers after a stellar freshman campaign last season where she led the nation in assists with 1,564 and 11.17 per set. She only improved off her numbers from last year as this season she posted 11.52 assists, 1.93 digs, and .43 kills per set for the Reivers. The Hawaii native is currently second in assists with 1405.

Genesis Sheridan had a solid freshman season for this Iowa Western and was voted by the coaches as the 2018 ICCAC Division I Volleyball Player of the Year. Averaging 2.48 kills and .59 blocks she was among the top freshman in the country. She was highly efficient with a .510 hitting percentage, the best in the country. She has 308 kills in 516 attempts with only 45 errors.

After an All-American season in 2017, Irina Alekseeva had another great campaign for Iowa Western in 2018. The Russian native averaged 3.59 kills per set and is ninth in the country in total kills with 441. In two seasons, she has totaled 943 kills.

Ariana Macies was all over the court this season for the Reivers as their defensive specialist. Like her teammates, Macies is in the top 10 of a statistical category, in this case, digs. She has 608 digs and is second in the nation in that stat. Sh is averaging 4.83 digs per set and was named the NJCAA Player of the Week last week after their District J Championship run.

Indian Hills earned two selections on the All-Region selections team unit after finishing second in conference play.

Warrior outside hitter Mariana Rodrigues was the league's best hitter in 2018. She has the second most kills in the country with 537, nearly 100 more than Alekseeva of Iowa Western. Her 4.26 kills per set are the second most as well. Only three times all season did Rodrigues have less than 10 kills in a match. In all this season, she had 18 double-doubles of kills and digs.

Cecelia Campos, an of Natal, Brazil, was the other Warrior selected to the All-Region team. She had 441 kills this season which is top 10 in the nation. Complimenting Rodrigues, came up short of double-digit kills just five times all year and had five double-doubles of kills and digs.

Rounding out the seven players on All-Region, Marshalltown earned one selection this season after finishing third in the conference.

Jelena Dukic anchored the Tigers and played a huge part in their 34 wins this season. The sophomore from Serbia averaged 10.43 assists, 2.66 digs, and .41 blocks per set in 2018. She is in the top 10 for both total assists (5th - 1272) and assists per set (7th).
