Eagles Return to NJCAA Tournament

Eagles Return to NJCAA Tournament

Kirkwood hosted Metropolitan Community College on Sunday and won their District D Championship match 3-0 to advance to the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Tournament for the first time since 2016. The Eagles, after falling in the 2017 Region XI Championship, earned their way back after winning the Region XI-A Championship in 2018. The fifth-seeded Eagles upset their way in the regional tournament past No. 4 DMACC in five sets, then again the following day against the No. 1 seed Iowa Central Tritons in the championship game, another five-set win.

As the lower-seeded champion of the Region XI-A and Region XI-B tournaments (Northeast, No. 2 seed), the Eagles hosted the District D championship in Cedar Rapids.

Alexa Aldrich-Ingram, ICCAC Division II Volleyball Player of the Year, led the Eagles to their three-set victory over Metropolitan. She posted 16 kills in three sets and added five digs. Lauren Keane served up 37 assists to lead all players in the match and Maddie Lavenz had a game-high 20 digs.

Abbi Tunis posted nine kills, which was second most for the Eagles.

Kirkwood will now travel to Charleston, W. Va. on Nov. 15-17.
