Reivers Advance to NJCAA National Tournament

The No. 5 ranked Iowa Western Reivers took down Missouri-West Plains in a five-set nailbiter in the District J Championship on Saturday in Missouri. The Reivers, after sweeping past Lake Land in the semifinals, met the host, Missouri-West Plains. Just over two weeks prior, the two met in Jefferson at a tournament in which the Grizzlies took down the Reivers 3-1. 

The result of the District Championship would be the opposite. After dominating the first set 25-12, Iowa Western dropped the next two sets and had their backs against the ropes heading into the fourth set. The Reivers rallied to a 25-19 win and handled the fifth set, 15-10. Genesis Sheridan had a huge game for the Reivers dropping 22 kills, a game-high. She was complemented by two other big hitters Irina Aleekseva and Kortlyn Henderson who had 16 kills each. 

Ariana Macies had 33 digs defensively and Hina Pua'a set a new career high for assists with 66. 

In District K, the Indian Hills Warriors went into the Championship game as an underdog and were unable to mount any momentum dropping the match 3-0 (25-15, 27-25, 25-17). The two District foes had met once before back in early October, in which the match had the same result. 

In the match, the Warriors were paced by Mariana Rodrigues who had 16 kills and seven digs. Cecilia Campos added 10 kills and nine digs. 

The Warriors finished as the District K runners-up with a final record of 18-16.
