Semi-Finals – Saturday, October 27, 2018

Region XI-A @ Fort Dodge, IA

(1) Iowa Central vs. (8) Southeastern - 1:00 PM

No. 1 Iowa Central finished their season with a record of 27-9 (9-0 ICCAC) and stand alone at the top of the ICCAC standings. The Tritons take their unblemished record into the regional playoffs against the 8th seeded Southeastern Blackhawks. Iowa Central defeated SCC 3-0 back on Oct. 3 in a matchup in West Burlington. Iowa Central closed the regular season on a five-game winning streak and will try and continue that against an upstart SCC team this Saturday at 1PM.

No. 8 Southeastern ended the year with a record of 23-16 (3-6 ICCAC), and comes in at the final spot playoff seating. The Blackhawks struggled for most of the year against conference competition, only beating Ellsworth, NIACC, and Iowa Lakes on the year, but notched a lot of wins in their non-conference schedule. Getting an opportunity to play top seeded Iowa Central once again will be a tough task, but a chance that the Blackhawks are excited for. Southeastern will need to win on the road throughout the playoffs, and will need to fight through adversity to prove themselves this postseason.

 (4) DMACC vs. (5) Kirkwood - 3:00 PM

DMACC closed out the year with a 23-11 (6-3 ICCAC) record and slides into the 4th seed this postseason. The Bears fell to Hawkeye, Northeast, and Iowa Central in conference play, the top three seeds in Region XI. Winning five out of their last seven matches to close the season, they will look to continue their momentum going into the playoffs. This DMACC team defeated Kirkwood at home way back on Aug. 29, 3-1, but a lot can change over the course of the year. The Bears will need to be ready to play this tough Kirkwood club, as everyone is hungry to advance this time of year.

No. 5 Kirkwood finished with a record of 29-8 (5-4 ICCAC) this year. Sitting at the 5th spot, the Eagles finished in the middle of the conference standings, and are looking to prove that they are better than their conference record this postseason. Only losing 4 non-conference matchups, Kirkwood will try and draw from their success out of the ICCAC, and focus up for regional play. Winning 4 out of their last 5 in the regular season, and narrowly losing to conference foe Northeast, Kirkwood's stock is trending upward in the playoffs. They get an opportunity to play a DMACC team that defeated them back in late August of this season, and show they have made great strides this year.

Region XI - B @ Norfolk, NE

(2) Northeast vs. (7) Southwestern - 1:00 PM

Northeast ended their regular season with a record of 17-13 (8-1 ICCAC). For what the Hawks lacked in success in the non-conference slate, they gained in ICCAC play. Northeast only fell to Iowa Central this year by a score of 3-1 against the top-seeded Tritons back in late September. Northeast had an up-and-down season outside of the ICCAC, but finds themselves as the 2nd seed going into regional play. Northeast ended their season with a huge win against Kirkwood, 3-2, and will try and carry that momentum into a big matchup against Southwestern in their home gym to open the playoffs.

Southwestern finished their year with a record of 14-20 (3-6 ICCAC). Out of the gate the Spartans struggled to win games, going 0-8 to start the season. After their tough start, Southwestern finally found success in the non-conference slate, notching 11 wins outside of ICCAC play. The Spartans have gotten better as the season goes on, and are trying to carry that build up of success into the playoffs. Southwestern closed the season with a convincing victory over Ellsworth, 3-0, assuring them a spot in the post-season. They will look at that victory and try to develop consistency entering regional play.

 (3) Hawkeye vs. (6) NIACC - 3:00 PM

Hawkeye ended the year sitting with a record of 18-7 (7-2 ICCAC). The RedTails found success all season long this year inside conference play, as well as outside ICCAC play. The RedTails started the year 11-1, and took down DMACC in their first-ever ICCAC conference game. Most recently, the RedTails finished the year with a victory against Southeastern, 3-2. Hawkeye played a noticeably less amount of non-conference games than the rest of the league, but don't think that makes them any less prepared for the playoffs. Hawkeye already defeated NIACC 3-0 back on Oct. 10, and will try and replicate that feat on Saturday.

NIACC closed out the season with a record of 22-14 (3-6 ICCAC). The Trojans had their fair share of success this season, with most of it coming during the non-conference slate. NIACC went 19-8 in non-conference play, defeating most of those teams in convincing fashion. During ICCAC play, however, the Trojans struggled to get a consistent win streak going, only defeating Southwestern, Ellsworth, and Iowa Lakes. NIACC beat Iowa Lakes last Wednesday to secure a spot in the Region XI Championship, a match that if they would have come up shot, could have left them on the outside looking in.
