NJCAA Volleyball All-Americans Announced

The NJCAA announced its 2017 NJCAA Volleyball All-American selections, which highlighted five student-athletes from the ICCAC.

From Division I, Iowa Western outside hitter Caitlyn Cooper was named a First Team All American for the second straight season. Cooper helped guide the Reivers to a 39-3 record, and a 7th place finish at the National Tournament. She ranked 3rd in the nation with 550 kills and 14th in the nation in kills per set at 3.74. With 99 total blocks for the season, she was 51st in the nation and her 4.3 points per set was 11th best in the country. Her 635 total points was 3rd best in all of Division I NJCAA Volleyball. Cooper will play volleyball at the University of Kentucky in 2018.

Iowa Western's other outside hitter Irina Alekseeva grabbed Second Team All American honors for the 2017 volleyball season. Alekseeva finished 5th in the nation with 502 kills and 14th in the nation at 3.54 kills per set. On the season Alekseeva totaled 572 points which was 5th in the country and tallied four points per set which was 14th in the country.

At the Division II level, Iowa Central outside hitter Gabby Sullivan received First Team All-American honors. After an full season, Sullivan ranked first in the nation in total attacks with 1,886. Sullivan was impressive, finishing in the top 10 in four other categories nationally: kills (2nd, 682), kills per set (4th, 4.49), points (2nd, 767), and points per set (8th, 5). Sullivan led the Tritons to the National Tournament for the first time since 2014.

Kirkwood outside hitter Ady Wintermote received Second-Team All-American honors. A freshman from Jewell, Iowa, she tallied up some impressive stats this season. With 488 kills on the year, Wintermote lead her team while also averaging 3.34 kills per set. Wintermote also lead her team in points, totaling up 557.5 on the season. 

DMACC's Lauren Reick picked up an Honorable Mention All-American honor as a middle blocker. The Ankeny, Iowa native recorded 56 solo blocks on the season, which lead her team. Reick also lead her team in block assists, with 108. Averaging 1.17 blocks per set, Reick was always ready to counter the opponent's attack. Recording 494 points on the season, Reick placed within the top 35 nationally.
