Reivers Drop RedTails

Waterloo, IA: Iowa Western use 2 second half goals to drop Hawkeye CC.

How It Happened: The Reivers were able to control the pace of the game by dominating possession throughout most of the match. The RedTails were content to it back and counter the Reiver attack. Despite dominating possession in the opening frame it was the home team that generated the first half's best chances. However, Freshman goalkeeper Judit Gonzalez was up to each challenge, saving easily.  During the first half the Reivers outshot the RedTails 8-2. Both teams went in to the break level at 0-0.

After the break, the Reivers were able to move the ball quicker and tallied 12 shots in the second half, 7 of which were on goal. In the 51st minute, Estefanis Cardona was able to find the back of the net off a free kick to to break the deadlock. The Reivers would continue to attack the goal and get their reward off a Cardona corner. Captain Moriah Lucas would get the finishing touch  

Notes & Numbers: Iowa Western improves to 9-3-0, 6-0-0 in ICCAC play. Goalkeeper Judit Gonzalez continues to keep her opponents shutout, her 6th of the season. Estefania Cardona gathers her 6th assist of the season and 4th goal of the season  

Quotes: Coach Adam Sanchez: "Hawkey came with a set game plan against us and stuck to it. They were prepared to frustrate us and fight to get a result. Our players were able to focus, make adjustments, and solve the problems in front of them. It was a great all-around effort and team performance on our side. The players were able to get the three points we were after and that's something to be proud of."
