NJCAA Releases 2018 Women's Soccer All-Americans

Region XI had three players recognized on the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer All-American list announced on Wednesday.

On the First Team was ICCAC Conference Player of the Year, Laura Chavez. A sophomore forward from Iowa Western, Chavez was the leader of a Reiver team that placed third at the national tournament in 2018. Although she only finished with 13 goals (76th in NJCAA), Chavez excelled in distribution. She assisted on 30 of her team's goals, which was second-highest of all players. She finished 23rd in points with 56.

Chavez's teammate and Iowa Western's goalkeeper Whitney Dockweiler took home Honorable Mention honors. Dockweiler was selected as the ICCAC Goalkeeper of the Week eight times in 2018. The sophomore finished the season with 54 saves, an .857 save percentage, and a .5 goals allowed against average.

Emily Murphy of Indian Hills and the ICCAC's leading goal scorer was tabbed as an Honorable Mention selection. Murphy, only a freshman, scored the fifth most goals in Division I Women's Soccer this year, 37. She totaled 89 points, fourth most in the country. For perspective, 2018 is the first time since 2002 that the NJCAA has had three players score over 100 points. Last year, the nation's leading scorer had 88 points.
