WATERLOO - In a match-up that would have big implications on post-season play, the Hawkeye Community College women's soccer team posted a 1-0 shutout over Iowa Lakes Community College in what proved to be a defensive battle.

Defenses stifled both teams' offenses throughout this match, as the RedTails lone goal proved to be the difference. It was the freshman tandem of Kelsey Bakken and Jovanna Suarez who would combine for the goal in the 32nd minute, as Suarez set up the midfielder Bakken for the score. The RedTails kept the Lakers in check offensively throughout the match, as they allowed only 5 shots on goal.

The RedTails offense tallied 8 shots, and goalkeeper Alexis Trombley collected 5 critical saves in the goal.

The women's soccer team will hit the road to take on conference foe Northern Iowa Area Community College Wednesday, October 18 for their next match.
