Wednesday is will a big day for conference duels in the ICCAC. No. 3 Ellsworth will host No. 12 NIACC and 13th-ranked Iowa Western will travel to No. 8 Iowa Lakes. This will not be the first time these squads have met each other on the mat this season.

 

#12 NIACC at #3 Ellsworth - Wednesday, 1/17 @ 7:00 p.m.

Ellsworth and NIACC matched up for the first time this season back on Nov. 15. Ellsworth easily took home the win, 30-12. Out of the ten weight classes, Ellsworth finished with seven victories. Camron Neal (125 lbs.), Justin Folley (133), Josh Adams (149), Steven Lawrence (157), Matthew Young (165), Timothy Young (197), and Darrell Mason (285) all came up victorious during their matches.

Ellsworth is nationally ranked No. 3 and is second in the standings within the ICCAC conference. Previously on Jan. 9, Ellsworth lost their first duel of 2018 to Iowa Lakes, 24-16.

Ellsworth's key wrestlers came out strong against Iowa Lakes, and are expected to do so again this Wednesday night against NIACC. Folley, Lawrence, Young, and Mason were the only wrestlers to win their matches against the Lakers. 

Although NIACC is at the bottom of the standings in the conference, they are ranked nationally coming in at No. 12.

During the matchup on Nov. 15 against Ellsworth, NIACC had three personal victories. The 141-pound weight class by Austin Anderly, the 174-pound weight class by Zach Wagenhoffer, and the 184-pound weight class by Jaylen Lee.

#13 Iowa Western at #8 Iowa Lakes - Wednesday, 1/17 @ 7:00 p.m.

Iowa Western and Iowa Lakes have already matched up squared off once this season back on Dec. 6. Iowa Western won with a scoreboard that read 20-16. The matches were split evenly at five a piece. 

During their previous matchup with Iowa Lakes, Iowa Western came up victorious at the 125-pound weight class (Emmanuel Browne), 149 (Guy Sudmann), 165 (Tell Ward), 197 (Seth Ham) and the 285 (Travis Gusan).

Iowa Lakes' victories came from Jordin James at 133, Anthony Fisher at 141, Anthony Maia at 157, Sangobunmi Smith at 174, and Isaiah Cox at 184.

Most recently, after meeting up with Ellsworth on Jan. 9, Iowa Lakes defeated the Panthers and took the lead spot at the top of the conference standings. Both are sitting with a 3-1 record in conference duels.

Iowa Western is sitting at fourth in the conference, with two wins and two losses. Expect another close bout between these two teams tomorrow night.
