ICCAC Wrestling Dual Preview

Wednesday, November 29, 2017

Two conference duals will take place this week in the ICCAC as Ellsworth plays host to Iowa Western and NIACC travels to face Iowa Lakes.  Here's what you can expect during Wednesday's duals:

#2 Iowa Western @ #1 Ellsworth

On Wednesday, top-ranked Ellsworth will host second-ranked Iowa Western in the biggest dual of the week in the NJCAA.  Iowa Western, who won their first conference dual of the season against No. 11 NIACC, is coming off a solid team performance last week at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Holiday Inn Open.  The Reivers had eight individuals finish in the top eight at their respective weight classes during the tournament, including a fifth place finish from Ottis Peeler in the 184 pound elite division.  D'Andre Brumfield, currently ranked No. 1 at the 133 pound weight class by Intermat, earned a sixth place finish.

Ellsworth, who has already won early-season conference duals against No. 4 Iowa Central and No. 11 NIACC, is coming a great team performance at last week's Lindenwood University Open in St. Charles, Missouri. No. 1 ranked Steven Lawrence led the way with a first place finish at the 157-pound division.  Sophomore Josh Adams finished at second place in the 149 pound weight class, while freshman Charles Griffin lost in the championship by decision in the heavyweight division.

The key matchups for the Reiver-Panther duel are highlighted by the 133 pound and 157 pound weight classes.  At the 133-pound division, top-ranked D'Andre Brumfield will face the Panthers' Justin Folley, who currently sits at No. 3 in the Intermat rankings. In the 157 weight class, top-ranked Steven Lawrence matches up with Iowa Western's #3 Tell Ward.

Wednesday's dual will begin at 7pm at Ellsworth Community College.

#11 NIACC @ #7 Iowa Lakes

Another crucial ICCAC dual will take place on Wednesday as Iowa Lakes hosts NIACC.  NIACC is coming off a solid performance at last week's Coe College Invitational after two conference dual losses to Iowa Western and Ellsworth to begin the season.  The Trojans had four different players finish at third place at last week's invitational.  At the 165-pound weight class, the Trojan's Ryan Faught, currently ranked No. 7 by Intermat, won a 6-4 decision in the third place game.  Robert Rodriguez (149), Noah Jackson (157), and Jimsher Sidhu (285) also earned third place finishes at their respective divisions.

Iowa Lakes, who won their only conference dual of the season thus far against Iowa Central, traveled to Minneapolis last week for the Auggie-Adidas Invitational at Augsburg College.  Freshman Tracy Davis earned a third place finish at the 133-pound division after defeating Wartburg College's Nicholas Meling by technical fall. In addition, sophomore Brian Maas finished in sixth place in the 125-pound weight class.

This week's dual will feature highly anticipated matchups at the 184-pound division. No. 2 ranked Isaiah Cox from Iowa Lakes will face No. 5 Anthony Collins. At the 197 pound weight class, top-ranked Tim Young will face the Lakers' Cayelon Barton, who is currently ranked No. 8 by Intermat.

Wednesday's dual will begin at 7pm at Iowa Lakes Community College.
