Iowa Western Wins 2022 ICCAC Sport Shooting Championships in Shootout

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - The 2022 ICCAC Sport Shooting Championships were held this past weekend at the Iowa Trap Shooting Club in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Ten members of the ICCAC were in attendance to put a stamp on the regular season and determine the 2022 ICCAC Champion.

There were a lot of good teams at this year's competition with both Iowa Central and Hawkeye coming into the competition undefeated in regular season competition with both having a record of 6-0. Right behind them were the two runners-up in their respective divisions as Iowa Western and Southeastern were 4-1 and shot consistently all year long. Iowa Western also comes into the year as the returning champions.

Iowa Central and their division rivals Iowa Western ended up at the top of the competition and completed shooting with a tie at 978 team points. The teams then went into a shootout to determine the true first place winner, with Iowa Western just edging out the Tritons by two birds.

The Reivers had some very consistent shooting from their entire lineup with top scores coming from Andrew Mount who shot a 98 and John DeFord who finished with a 97. Iowa Central's lineup was very consistent down the stretch as well with a 94, three 95's and the top score of the meet coming from Carson Feeney, who shot a 99.

Coming in third place was Hawkeye who finished right at the top of the pack as expected from regular season competition. Hawkeye had all shooters scored above 91 with their top shooter of the day, Jake Maakestad, shooting a 96. Coming in fourth behind Hawkeye is Southwestern who was a bit of a dark horse coming into this competition. Southwestern had not won a regular season matchup this year but shot consistently as a team with four shooters shooting in the 90's.

Southeastern finished the meet in fifth place after having lower than usual scores with two shooters shooting in the 80's. The story was the same for Northwest Iowa, who joined ICCAC schools for the competition, as they finished in sixth place.

Rounding out the competition in order of placing were Indian Hills, Iowa Lakes, Northeast and Kirkwood. Indian Hills and Iowa Lakes both had decent outings with scores in the 90's and mid 80's. Northeast and Kirkwood both had tough meets as a team and didn't quite shoot up to their averages. Kirkwood was also shorthanded during the meet, only having four shooters for the competition.
