Iowa Central Men Place Seventh at NJCAA Championships

EL DORADO, Kan.— The Iowa Central Tritons finished seventh nationally as a team at the NJCAA Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend.

Travis Petersen won the Tritons' first title as a team on the first day of competition. Petersen threw a mark of 61.07m in the Hammer Throw to win the individual title.

On Friday, the Iowa Central 4x800 meter relay squad finished first after Brian Bell utilized a strong last leg to propel the Tritons to their second first-place finish of the weekend after Isaiah Nicholas, Alex Sanford, and Mel Obadiah led it off. 

Brian Bell finished second in the 800 M race, finishing just under a second behind the winner from Trinidad State. 

A few of the other top performances came when Phemelo Matlhabe finished third in the 200 M. Ezekiel Kipchirchir placed fourth in the Steeplechase event.

Iowa Western's Marcus Klein won three decathlon events (100 M, 400 M, long jump) en route to a second-place overall finish. Teammate Kenyon Burton placed second in the men's javelin throw.
