Triton swimmers compete at natonals

Koprivnjak, a freshman from Zagreb, Croatia, held off a late charge by his teammate to finish second in the 200-yard butterfly with a school record time of 1 minute, 51.73 seconds, with Fusilier (Fr.-Georgetown, Texas) placing third in 1:51.99.

"As a coach, you worry throughout the season hat two amazingly gifted and amazingly dedicated kids like Goran and Calvin might not reap the rewards for all of their hard work," Tritons coach Jeff Olsen said. "Tonight, those worries have finally been placed to rest. I'm so proud of all that both of them have achieved."

The Triton men finished in eighth place with 380 points.

"That finish is disappointing, but it really reflects the size of the roster I inherited," Olsen said. "When I took the job in July, it appeared we'd have one returning male swimmer and two incoming freshmen. So to have been able to bring six swimmers on the guy's side to the meet is encouraging, and with the recruiting season we've enjoyed so far, I'm optimistic we'll quickly make some substantial gains."

On the women's side, the Tritons finished in seventh place with 433 points, with Saturday night's efforts highlighted by the team of Judith Meauri, Karissa Bohn, Katie Neigbauer and Jordan Patch finishing sixth and setting a school record in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:49.00.

"All five school relay records fell this week, and the only sophomore to swim on any of them was Karissa," Olsen said.

Also scoring points for Iowa Central on Saturday were Jordan Patch (15th in the 1,650 free at 19:49.93), Cierra Kruger (20th in the 1,650 free at 22:14.76), Debra Daniel (12th in the 200 back at 2:20.77), Meauri (13th in the 100 free at 54.76), Bohn (17th in the 100 free at 56.09), and the men's 400 free relay team of Koprivnjak, Fusilier, Chris Hillyer and Nate Rohrer (seventh in 3:20.19).
