2023 All-Region | Division II Men's Soccer

The 2023 All-Region selections and special awards from Division II Men's Soccer were announced on Tuesday after the completion of the District Championship. 

Headlining the group was the dominance of Northeast Community College during the 2023 season. The Hawks, the Region 11 Champions, Plains District Champions and the No. 1 Seed of the NJCAA National Tournament had 11 selections total, four on the First Team. 

Of their group, Edouard Nys took home the top hardware and was voted the ICCAC Division II Men's Soccer Player of the Year. 

A freshman forward, Nys has recorded 54 points to date, tied for third-most in NJCAA Division II. He has notched 16 goals and 22 assists, totaling 38 goal contributions. He ranks third in assists and 14th in goals scored in the country -- while leading the ICCAC is assists and being second in goals. 

Four of his goals this season were game winning. He had three multi-goal games and recorded an assist in 15 of 21 contests. In three postseason contests this season, he scored in each game totaling three goals and four assists. 

Nys is the second player from Northeast to win the Player of the Year award, joining teammate Jeevan Purewal who won it last season. 

Joining Nys on the First Team from Northeast were Luca Baltzer, Lewis Rourke and Mathias Kristoffersen

Rourke has been a great pairing with Nys offensively. The freshman has 44 points this season and leads the team in goals with 20 -- tied for fifth-most in NJCAA Division II. 

Baltzer was a First Team selection last season. Now in his sophomore season, Baltzer totaled 17 points, scoring five goals and adding seven assists.

The Hawks' goalkeeper, Kristoffersen, has allowed just eight goals in 20 matches played. His .42 goals allowed average is tied for second-best in the country. and his 19 wins and 12 shutouts lead the country by a large margin. 

Iowa Lakes placed three players on the First Team after their runner-up finish in the conference standings. The Lakers, who received an at-large bid to the NJCAA National Tournament, selected Kenji SugiuraEmilio Cazares and Eugenio Perez as their representatives. 

Cazares was the team's leading scorer with 34 points -- fourth-most in the league. He netted 15 goals. Sugiura was the team's facilitator -- he led the Lakers with 13 assists, third-best in ICCAC Division II. 

Perez was a staple to the defensive efforts for Iowa Lakes this season, a team that allowed 1.22 goals per game. Offensively, Perez produced a goal and an assist.

Southeastern and Marshalltown each placed two players on the First Team. 

From Southeastern, Cristobal Gutierrez and Jordi Masegosa were the honorees. Gutierrez was  a Second Team selection last season and had eight goals and six assists this season. Masegosa had two goals and six assists. 

Marshalltown gave the nod to Haruya Higuchi and Yuki Fujita. Higuchi was a top three scorer in the conference with 35 points, including 15 goals. Fujita had five goals and four assists for 14 points. 

Three teams each earned one selection, with Anders Laurdisen of Hawkeye, Edgar Salazar Buenano of Iowa Central and Matias Garcia Castilla of Western Iowa Tech receiving the final First Team slots. 

Rounding out the top honors was head coach Adam Potter being voted ICCAC Division II Men's Soccer Coach of the Year. Potter, in just his second season, has led the Hawks to back-to-back Region & District titles and a second-straight National Tournament appearance. 

The Hawks are 20-1 this season with their only loss being a forfeit to Metropolitan (Mo.) due to an ineligible player. Northeast has been No. 1 in the rankings since September 18, the last six NJCAA polls.  

Potter won the award last season.
