WICHITA, Kan. - Indian Hills and Iowa Western finished in the top half of the Central District Tournament to both advance to the 2023 NJCAA National Championships in May.
The Warriors trailed by three strokes after the first 36 holes on Day 1, but could not close the gap any further and ended as the District runner-ups, six shots back of Dodge City.
Gaspar Glaudas entered Day 2 in second place and led all Warriors by tournament's end at 4-over par and in a tie for fourth place. Joining Glaudas in the top 10 was Jose Ramirez who shot a final round 2-under, 70 to finish at +5. Taimur Malik ended at +7 and Edouard Cereto at +8.
Iowa Western's Ethan Smith jumped up the board to end in a tie for fourth with Glaudas, as the Reivers took fifth place as a team. Smith shot a 1-under 71 in the final 18 holes to lead the way for IWCC. Henry Kosmicki was the next highest finisher for Iowa Western at +8 and tied for 14th.
Cooper Hanson dropped out of the top 10 after a 11-over 83 on Day 2. In his first round, he shot a 2-under 70 -- the Reivers lowest score of the weekend (tied with Kosmicki).
Max Nielsen shot +12 for the tournament and was the third-lowest finisher for IWCC at T23.
Both teams advance to the NJCAA National Tournament in Newton, Kan. at Sand Creek Station May 16-19.
