Kirkwood Wins Eagle Classic

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Kirkwood hosted the Eagle Classic on Hunter's Ridge Course this Wednesday. The ICCAC schools who competed were Hawkeye, Southeastern, and host Kirkwood. Tee time was bright and early at 8:30 a.m.

Kirkwood brought two squads to the meet who both placed first and second overall. Kirkwood finished with 588 strokes and the "B" team finished second with 606 strokes. The win gave Kirkwood their fourth straight tournament victory in a row this fall.

The Eagles compiled four athletes at the top of the player leaderboard led by Sebastian Carranza who tied for first place finishing even-par.

After the first round, Carranza was tied for fourth place. Tying with Carranza was teammate Kolby Schackelford who battled back after the first round in which he was tied for sixth. There was also a battle for third place within the Eagles squads with James Morgan and Noah Schlabaugh both shooting 6-over par tying them for third.

To round out the top-10 finishers for the Eagles was Luke Evans who finished seventh shooting 6-over par and Jacob Harrington-Wara who tied for ninth finishing 7-over par. 

Along with Kirkwood, Hawkeye also brought two squads to Hunter's Ridge.

The RedTails "A" team finished with a team total of 621 strokes which was good for fourth place overall. The "B" team finished seventh with 721 strokes. Hawkeye had two golfers tie for ninth place in the likes of Tom Bell and Ethan Streicher who both finished 8-over par.

Hawkeye's B team leader was Matthew Sternhagen who finished 25th shooting 20-over par. Finishing right behind Sternhagen was teammate Ethan Fox who placed 26th finishing 25-over par. Fox was tied for 35th thru the first round but battled back to finish 26th. 

Southeastern finished in sixth place with 680 strokes. The Blackhawk's Jon Jarvis was the school's leader finishing tied for 15th shooting 14-over par. The next Southeastern finishers, Caleb Cochran and Jayden Rios, both tied for 28th finishing 28-over par.

Look Ahead: The next ICCAC golf action will be this Sunday, Oct. 11. The schools competing will be DMACC, Iowa Central, Iowa Lakes, and NIACC in the Quad Cup which will be held on the Coldwater Golf Links in Ames, IA. Indian Hills will also be competing in the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate at Ridgepointe Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark.
