AMES, Iowa - The Kirkwood Eagles won the 2019 Division II Men's Golf Region XI Championship on Monday by 14 strokes over DMACC. The win notched the Eagles fifth straight Region XI title. Kirkwood was led by James Morgan, who shot a second round 76, which was just good enough to earn the one-shot win over runner up Ben Boerjan of NIACC. Both Morgan and Boerjan shot a first round 71 on Sunday, with the one stroke being decided in the final round.
Fellow Eagle Ben Epperly shot second round 74, tied for the best score with two others to finish in third place. Matthew Schafer of Northeast finished in fourth, just three shots behind the leader. Will Babcock (Kirkwood) and Kolby Chup (DMACC) rounded out the top five as the two tied at +9 for the weekend.
The top three finishing teams advance to the NJCAA National Tournament. Joining Kirkwood and DMACC is Southwestern who were led by Reinhardt Saunderson and Oliver Pearson, who both finished +10 for the tournament.
The National Tournament will be held May 21-24 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Ind.
