PANORA, Iowa - Kirkwood shot a final round 301 to separate themselves from the pack and win the 2018 Region XI Championship. The Eagles, who trailed by one heading into the day, won by 12 strokes over DMACC. This is the fourth straight time Kirkwood has won the Region XI Championship, and the sixth time in the last seven years.
Dawson Peters shot a 73 on the final day to win the individual region title. He and Southwestern's Oliver Pearson came into the day tied with a 74, which is what Pearson shot again in the final round.
The leader after the first round, Reinhardt Saunderson of Southwestern, shot a second round 80 and finished the tournament in fifth place. A highlight of his weekend, however, he aced hole No. 3 during his first round.
Along with the Eagles, DMACC and NIACC qualify for the NJCAA Championships in Foley, Ala at Glenlakes Golf Club, May 22-25. Pearson and Saunderson also qualified for nationals after finishing with the top two scores from non-qualifying teams.
