NIACC men's golfers in fifth after day one at AIB Invite

"I thought all the women did an outstanding job of keeping their heads in the game and battling until the end," said NIACC coach Chris Frenz.

Mikayla Smith led the Lady Trojans with an 83 while Alexandria Eckenrod shot an 86.

"Smith played a great back nine today and I think that momentum will carry her into (today) when the conditions will be much more conducive to a good score," Frenz said. "She needed to learn that she can play in difficult conditions and she proved that today."

The NIACC men's team sits in fifth place after the first day.

Levi Fink shot a team-high 74 to lead the Trojans.

"Levi has been almost unbelievable on the the greens this spring with his putting stroke and because of that he's scoring well, Frenz said. "He is so confident right now that it's fun to watch."

Fink is currently tied for second place overall.

Both men and women hit the course again today for second round action.
