NJCAA Recognizes Six on the 2018-19 All-American List

The NJCAA has announced the 2018-19 Men's Basketball All-Americans and six ICCAC men are receiving the precious honor.

For Division I, Thomas Woldetensae, from Indian Hills was voted First-Team All-American. The Italy native dominated in the ICCAC. He led the conference in three-pointers (100 for 210, 47.6%) and free throw percentage (88.8%). The guard averaged 17.3 points per game as he scored 485 total points throughout the season, leading his team. Woldetensae snatched 77 total rebounds, dished 70 assists and stole the ball 27 times in 2018-19.

Not far behind was his teammate, Torrey Patton, also representing on Honorable Mention. The sophomore averaged 14.7 points per game, the Warrior's second highest behind Woldetensae. Patton scored 452 points throughout the entirety of the season, ranked fourth in the conference. Although Patton did not lead the conference in any categories, he ranked second in multiple such as free throws made (101 for 137), offensive rebounds (83), total rebounds (248) and rebounds per game (8). 

The last Division I selection was Kelton Edwards from Marshalltown, earning Honorable Mention recognition as well. The sophomore guard scored 571 points this season while shooting 45.8% from the field, 36.6% from the arch and 81% from the line. Edwards led the conference in points and points per game, as well as field goals (227 for 496).

On the Division II side, Tray Buchanan from DMACC earned a Third-Team All-American honor. The guard led the way for the Bears this season while averaging 19.4 points per game. Buchanan led his team in multiple categories such as overall points (602), free throw shooting percentage (81.7) and steals (73). 

NIACC's Deundra Roberson was named to the All-American Second-Team. The freshman led his team to a 25-5 record, averaging 16 points per game, the team's highest. Roberson led the conference in steals (29 during conference play) and he was second in the conference with field goals, sinking 104 of 190 in conference play. Roberson averaged 38% from behind the arch and 51.2% from the field in the 2018-19 season.

And to no surprise, Kirkwood's Doug Wilson, the Division II ICCAC Player of the Year, earned a First-Team All-American honor. The only returning All-American from a year ago, Wilson led the conference in seven categories, such as points (715), points per game (21), blocks (60), total rebounds (296), rebounds per game (8.7), free throws (166 for 237) and field goals (274 for 409).

Over the season Wilson scored 30+ points in four games, including the victory against Johnston County for the National Title. He also scored 20+ points in 16 additional games. The sophomore earned Second-team honors last season. He will be heading to South Dakota State University to continue his collegiate career.
