Indian Hills Wins the District 11 Championship

OTTUMWA, Iowa - Indian Hills battled their way back from six points down at the half to win the 2018 District 11 Championship on Thursday night over North Dakota State College of Science, 88-76. 

Indian Hills was led by Region XI Division I Player of the Year, Shane Gatling. The sophomore guard poured in 22 points, including six three-pointers (four in the second half). Fellow First Team All-Region selection Ivan Aurreacochea post his 13th double-double of the year, posting 13 points and 12 rebounds. Tomas Woldetensae and Jamel Allen each scored in double-digits as well, with 14 and 13 respectively. 

Melvin Newbourne Jr. paced NDSCS, leading every major statistical category dropping 30 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and handing out six assists. 

This was the fifth consecutive year that the Warriors and the Wildcats have met in the district title game, with Indian Hills winning four of the five. NDSCS won in 104-103 in overtime back in 2016. 

The win punched their fifth straight ticket to the Division I National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan starting March 19. Seeding will be announced on Monday, March 12 at 11:30 a.m. by the NJCAA. Follow @NJCAA on Twitter to follow along.
