Sallorin Wins 2023 NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year, Three Earn Gold Glove

Three Division II Baseball players from the ICCAC earned Gold Glove honors for the 2023 season. Jose Sallorin of Southeastern headlined the group after earning Defensive Player of the Year honors from his shortstop position. 

Sam Skarich (Southeastern), and Jose Colon (Iowa Lakes) were also awarded thanks to their defensive performance on the field.  

Sallorin now has the honors of the ICCAC Defensive Player of the Year and NJCAA Division II Defensive Player of the Year. He posted a .975 fielding percentage while assisting on 151 outs, which was ranked second in all NJCAA Division II and first in ICCAC Division II Baseball. He also ranked inside the top 20 in both total chances and double plays. 

In 14 games this season he made four or more assists in the field. In 239 total chances, Sallorin made just six errors. He also assisted on six double plays while helping the Blackhawks finish as a National Runner-up at the World Series.

Skarich was the other member of the Blackhawks left infield while making plays at third base. He held a .942 fielding percentage in conference play while making just three errors. Throughout the entire season, Skarich made 39 putouts and 107 assists.

In all of ICCAC Division II  Baseball, Skarich ranked eighth in assists and 28th in total chances. At one point during the season, he went 22 straight games without committing an error.

Iowa Lakes' outfielder Colon earned Gold Glove honors after finishing the season with a 1.000% fielding percentage. He tied for first in ICCAC Division II Baseball in fielding percentage and was ranked inside the top 30 in both double plays and putouts.

Colon made 92 putouts on 98 chances, while assisting on six outs. During the 44 games he appeared in, Colon didn't make a single error while in the outfield.
