News Release-NJCAA Softball to Fort Dodge
July 17, 2002

NATIONAL TOURNEY AWARDED TO IOWA CENTRAL

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has awarded its Div. II national softball tournament to Iowa Central Community College and the city of Fort Dodge for the next three years. The 10-team, double elimination national tournament will be held at the Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex May 15-17, 2003. Fort Dodge and Iowa Central will also host the 2004 and 2005 tournaments. The Rogers Park complex is already host to the popular Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union state softball tournament, which routinely draws crowds in excess of 20,000 for its five-day run each August. Phoenix Community College, Phoenix, Ariz., ended its three-year run as tournament host last May. Lansing Community College, Lansing, Mich., won the tournament. Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids, was the Iowa Region representative but did not place in the top four. This is not the first time Fort Dodge and Iowa Central have hosted a national junior college softball tournament. The NJCAA women's slow pitch national championship invitational was held at Rogers Park from 1977-79. The NJCAA no longer sanctions slow pitch softball. <% Server.Execute "../../footer.asp" %>
