Iowa Western Athletics to add Swimming & Diving

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - The Iowa Western Board of Trustees approved the addition of men's and women's swimming and diving to the Reivers' athletic department this coming Fall.

"I am excited that we continue to provide options for students who want to continue their athletic careers alongside their academic careers," said Iowa Western President Dr. Dan Kinney. "Swimming is an outstanding sport that is big around Council Bluffs and the Omaha region. Now students can stay home and attend Iowa Western, earning their degree while competing in a sport they love."

The program will operate out of the Lewis Central Community School District's pool at Titan Hill Intermediate School and under the shared agreement with Lewis Central, there is no cost for Iowa Western to use the facilities; the Reivers would practice during the school day, so the pool would be available after school for Lewis Central High School swimmers.

"I am looking forward to the addition of our swimming and diving program," mentioned Iowa Western Athletic Director Shane Larson. "Southwest Iowa and the Omaha Metro region have a strong tradition of competitive high school and club programs.  We are grateful for the support of the IWCC administration and Board of Trustees in the addition of this program.  It will provide great opportunities for students to continue their passion while continuing their educational journey."

A national search for a coaching staff will begin immediately with an expected start date by the end of March.

With the addition of swimming and diving, the Iowa Western Athletic Department is now up to 25 men's and women's sports which have produced 94 national championships and 563 NJCAA All-Americans.
